Welcome!
Joshua Abbott's
Story
The
picture (below right) is Joshua James Abbott and Harold the Helicopter.
Joshua's love and enthusiasm for this helicopter inspired the creation of a
storybook dedicated to Josh, his family, and other children as a FUN-d raiser
to help with their financial burdens.
A reminder that we can with a little effort help fulfill a child's dream and a
joyful future for his family. Please take a moment and read his story. |
CHRISTMAS DAY
2002

On Christmas day 2002, while most young children of America were enjoying the
most festive time of year with their families. My three year old great-nephew,
Joshua Abbott was undergoing delicate brain surgery.
Doctors removed a tumor from his brain and sent samples to the pathologists
for analysis. A short time after the operation pathologists confirmed that a
form of cancer was detected. Joshua was one of the 14,000 children in America annually diagnosed with cancer.
Joshua,
has gone through some very difficult times. The sickness and discomfort of
chemo-therapy. The surgery, loss of his hair and all of the horrible effects
of the disease.

INSPIRATION FOR STORY
BOOK
On June 19, 2003 I met Josh at his parents home in Minnesota. It was instant
love for this cute little boy. He took me by the hand and led me to his
playroom and for 20 minutes told me stories about Harold the helicopter that
only a creative and alert child could tell. It was remarkable to see the
excitement and energy he displayed over this toy. His mind was alert, his
imagination keen. The cancer had not affected his ability to be creative and
to communicate his dreams and excitement about this helicopter with me.
My visit inspired me to a mission. I had to create a book about this
helicopter so he could continue his fascination and dreams. I saw it as
therapy for him. This small act that would help Joshua fulfill his boyhood
fantasy and benefit him forever. The book had to be funny, exciting and easy
for a child to understand.
Please read the following pages and learn what we can all do to make a
difference in the lives of these unfortunate children throughout the world. |
